When an idol dies.
When someone important dies, an idol and we cry, there’s always someone who tell us “Why are you crying for someone you don’t know?” “Is not like it was a relative or something”, etcetera.
When an idol of us dies, we cry because there will never be someone who can cause an equal impact on our life. We cry because we are never gonna have the chance to meet them. We ain’t gonna hear news about them or see a new picture of them.
We have what they left, yes. And it is precious and perfect and invaluable and we’ll have it for eternity but can you imagine what they could have done? what ELSE they could have done. The songs, the movies, the books, the jokes.
We will never know and that’s why we cry.
They don’t have to be relatives and we don’t have to personally know them to cry them and miss them and there’s no chance you could be more wrong when you say that they didn’t do anything for us, because we can’t explain what they’ve done. When we hear and sing a song and we dream we are with them, seeing them and fantasizing that they’re singing to us. When we read a book and travel to places we can only imagine and we are part of different, wonderfull and magical worlds. When we watch a movie and we are actually seeing and everyone can see what we were just imagining before. Or when we laugh so hard that our stomaches hurts when we hear a joke or because they’ve done or said something really stupid that maybe only we understand.
So if you don’t understand that is because you don’t have it and then there’s no way we can make you understand what we feel when they passed away.
So here’s to our idols, those only we can understand. Comedians, Actors, Film-makers, Writers, Musicians. Every single one of them.
it doen’t matter if we don’t share the same ones.
(inspired by a huge hero to me…and his death. SALUD!)
